As an educator, it is your job to be authentic, knowledgeable and challenging. As a technology leader, it is your job to be adaptable, creative and perceptive. As a human, it is my job to find the intersection of these qualities to be the best version of myself. This very intersection is where I currently reside.

My showcase is a collection of some of my greatest accomplishments as a  knowledgeable, creative and authentic educator who has learned that sometimes being a rebel is necessary to get the job done.

Enjoy!

Creativity at it's Finest

Sometimes being asked to do something without explicit instructions can be difficult. However, sometimes in the madness you end up with something you never thought you'd have. My Educational Pastime rap video was my interpretation of a digital product that  I thought embodied how I brought passion and creativity into the classroom. This assignment shows my ability to step outside of my comfort zone to complete a task in an impactful way.

Educational Pastime Rap

I've always believed that if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. Sometimes you have to work for what you love. This assignment is a conference proposal entitled, "Media Mashup: Tips and Tricks of How to Bring More Social Media into your Classroom".

This proposal included ways in which teachers could implement social media into the classroom in an effort to teach 21st-century skills. The rationale behind this proposal was that in order to engage students, we have to meet them where they are and build.

Creating a website is a daunting task, but it is necessary if you want any chance of being relevant in this decade.

The assignment is a "collection" point for multiple assignments and courses throughout my journey. It contains lesson plans, papers and multiple digital creations that show my range of abilities.

Digital Story

Good teachers know how important a foundation is. This video is a creation of my experience as I worked with a student though the Cognitive Apprenticeship Framework. Through this framework, students learn how to write better with the assistance of a model. The model functions as a guide  and assists the student as she learned how to complete a writing task.

This is a course module that I created. It contains 2 fully fleshed out 9th Grade English Language Arts units as well as the bones for a 3rd unit. This course was created as an example of a blended learning environment.

Screencasts

Below is an example of a screencast that I created as a mini review for the parts of speech for my students. It was created for the intent of following a flipped classroom model.

Being Real is the Only Thing I Know...

Failure as a Learning Mode

Authenticity is key especially in the classroom. If students can't understand that we work from truth, then nothing worthwhile will ever take place.

This video, Failure as a Learning Mode, is a component of a project where I learned how to use failure as a place to learn. If the relationships are there, students can trust their teachers enough to know that there are powerful learning experiences that can come from their failures

Networked Learning Video

This is a video mashup that I created as a final assignment early on in my MAET journey. In this assignment, I was asked to learn how to do something by only using the internet. Thankfully I accomplished that goal and more than that, I began to see just how important the intersection of technology and education can be.
